Non Uniform Day – Friday 14th July

As many of you will be aware, 6 year old Bradley Lowery, a young boy from Sunderland who has captured many hearts during his battle with neuroblastoma, passed away last Friday.

His funeral has been arranged for this Friday (14th July) and The Bradley Lowery Foundation are asking others to mark to day by raising funds for families in similar situations.

At the request of a number of learners and parents, there will be the option to join in with a non uniform day this Friday 14th July.

Any learners or staff wishing to support the fundraising effort can pay a £1 donation to come to school in non-uniform this Friday (14th July).

You can find out more about Bradley’s story by following this link

How To Find Your Child’s New Classroom

On Monday we will be starting our whole school shuffle up fortnight. All learners should go straight to their new class on Monday morning. Here’s how to find your child’s new class. Staff will also be available in playgrounds to point you in the right direction!

F1 – All F1 learners should continue to enter school through the EYFS outdoors area and their usual door.

Y1 classes – Follow the path behind Rising Stars and EYFS into the lower playground. Y1 cloakrooms will be the first cloakroom block, near to the climbing wall and ‘Steggie’ sculpture

Y2KB & Y2SJ – Follow the path behind Rising Stars and into the lower playground. Y2KB & Y2SJ will be the second cloakroom block, past the trim trail and near to the end of the old building.

Y4JW – Follow the path round behind Rising Stars and into the lower playground. Walk all the way round the outside of the old building to the sports hall. Class 4JW will line up at the fire doors to the right of the sports hall, next to the wall.

Y2CV & Y3RW – Follow the path across the front of the building towards the new build. These two classrooms are the first two classrooms in the new build on the lower level.

All other classes – Follow the path across the front of the building and up the ramp or steps to the upper playground.

Y4AB & Y3GW (Mrs Gallear, Mrs Chambers & Miss Wiggan) – These two classrooms will be on the second floor above Y2CV and Y3RW. Classes should line up by the fire doors at the top of the steps.

Y3JM & Y6JH – These two classrooms are on the front of the new building

Y6CC & Y5 – These two classrooms are at the back of the new building.

50th Birthday Appeal

In September we will be celebrating 50 years since the opening of our school. As part of our celebrations we are preparing a whole school project exploring the history of Worsbrough Common School. Can you Help? We are looking for any resources – photos, news clippings, school books, reports, memories – that can help us learn more about the story of our school and community. Please get in touch if you can help!

Driveway Access – Changes Coming Monday 22nd May 2017

Many thanks to everyone who has responded to our consultation. We have received a number of responses, the majority of which support the proposals and so I am writing to inform you that the new arrangements will be in place from Monday 22nd May 2017. This will initially be a trial period and will be reviewed at the end of June 2017.

A reminder of these arrangements is as follows:

  • The school gates will be closed between 8.30am -9.15am and again between 3pm and 3.45pm
  • The gates will be manned by staff, who will grant access to passes and permit holders only during these times
  • Gates will only be opening to allow people onto site during these times. No exit from the drive will be permitted until after the restricted period.
  • Permits and passes will be given to the following groups
  1. Staff of School, Daycare & Family Centre who have a valid staff ID card or permit
  2. Visitors who have been issued with a visitor permit
  3. Disabled learners/families and blue badge holders
  4. Learners transported to school by Taxi and with a travel escort by arrangement with the Local Authority
  5. Rising Stars Daycare families who have been issued with a parking permit
  6. Visitors to the Family Centre who have been issued with a valid permit
  7. Any other person issued with a valid permit that is presented at the gate
  • Permits will be issued by the Headteacher.
  • Parents and carers may apply for a permit to access the drive during these times if they feel being unable to do so will pose a risk to the safety and wellbeing of their child or themselves. Applications should be submitted to the Headteacher and will be issued at the discretion of the Headteacher.
  • Anyone without a valid permit will be required to find alternative parking away from the school site during these times.

All parents and carers who have applied for a permit and meet the criteria above should have received a permit today. Further applications can be submitted to the school office or passed to myself for consideration.

Blue badge holders do not require a permit as long as they are able to present their blue badge on arrival.

I am aware that, whilst this measure will improve safety on the school site, it does not resolve the issue of congestion and the volume of traffic on Bruce Avenue, which remains a concern for many of you and so we ask that all parents and carers continue to be responsible and mindful of the safety for everyone during very busy times.

Finally I ask for your continued support and patience as we begin implement the new arrangements from next week.

If you have any further questions about this matter please do not hesitate to contact me.

Restricting Access to the School Drive – Consultation

As you will be aware we have been experiencing heavy congestion on the school drive at the start and end of the school day as a result of excess parking in the visitor’s car park and on the school, drive itself. We are aware that the congestion is the cause of much frustration for parents and carers as well as posing some significant risks to the safety of both adults and children as they arrive or leave school.

We have worked with our PTA to try and reduce congestion in a number of ways this year however without success and now looking to implement a new policy of restricted access to the school drive during key times in order to ensure to safety of everyone on site.

The new arrangements would be implemented from Monday 22nd May 2017 following a two-week consultation period. We will write to inform all parents of the outcome of the consultation period and to confirm new access arrangements on Friday 19th May.

These new arrangements are a very similar model to that used at many other schools across Barnsley. Under the new arrangements:

Anyone meeting the above criteria will be issued with a permit before Monday 14th May 2017.

We are inviting all parents and carers to consider the above proposals. If you would like to make a response to the proposals please return any comments in writing to school no later than Friday 19th May 2017 at 12.00pm.

If you have any further questions about this matter please do not hesitate to contact Miss Dring via the school office or call in at any time.
